FAIRWARP

CHRIST CHURCH

Services Every Sunday & Thursday 09:30am
&
Family Services 1st Sunday of the Month 11:00am

Welcome to the website of Christ Church, Fairwarp. We are a Church of England community set in Fairwarp, in the heart of the Ashdown Forest, East Sussex.  We warmly invite you to look at what we have to offer as a place of reflective, traditional Anglican worship.

The Parish is now officially in a vacancy, FrJohn having retired from his post as priest in charge.  During this period, the Eucharist will be celebrated twice monthly, on the first and third Sundays, as above.  Fr John will return as a visiting priest on the first Sunday, and other visiting priests will preside on the third Sunday, and at some Evensongs. Morning worship will be led by lay people, co-

ordinated by the churchwardens, as will some Evensongs.

All Covid-19 restrictions in churches and other places of worship having been removed, there is no formal requirement to wear face coverings in church.  However, those coming to services are asked to consider carefully the safety andwellbeing both of themselves and of others.

At the Eucharist, Communion is still in ‘one kind’; that is, communicants receive the bread of Communion, but there is not yet any sharing of the common cup.

ABOUT CHRIST CHURCH

Our church community is deeply rooted in the village, and we warmly welcome anyone who wishes to join us for worship: currently, our weekly congregation is drawn both from Fairwarp itself and from surrounding villages and nearby towns, including Uckfield and Crowborough.

As a parish in the central Anglican tradition, our worship is mainly Eucharistic. We celebrate the Parish Eucharist according to Common Worship Order One each Sunday at 9.30 am, with mostly traditional hymns supported by a small choir, and a brief, ten minute sermon. On Thursdays, currently, (see the monthly calendar of services here) there is a said Eucharist at 9.30 am, where we pray for the local community, especially any who are unwell or in any kind of need.

On special occasions in the church year, there are non-Eucharistic services of reflection and thanksgiving, for example Harvest and Remembrance tide. We also begin in the new school year 2017 a series of all-age services, the first of which is our ‘Back to School’ service in September.

It is also our great privilege as a church to mark the great transition points of life with Baptism, Marriage and Funeral Services. A village Christening, Marriage or Funeral service will see a large proportion of the local community gathered to offer thanks to God for the birth of a child, a wedding or the life of a community member now lost to us. The parish priest, Fr John, will be happy to respond to any enquiries about these services, and he can be contacted here.

We aim to be a warm, open and inclusive church community and we want to be of service to our neighbours both in Fairwarp and further afield. The teaching of Jesus is that we should love God and love our neighbour, and we aim to follow that teaching in all the practical ways we can. Do look at the rest of our website to get a full picture of our worship and other activities.
