Events
Each month Fairwarp WI organises a speaker come to entertain us or another event or outing. We try to make each meeting as varied as possible so there is something there for everyone over the year. Here is our programme for 2026/7:-
9 June 2026
Visit to Christ Church, Tower and Bell ringing
Caroline Shaw and her husband Chris will tell us about Christ Church with an opportunity to climb the tower and/or have a go at bell ringing!

Tony Rawlins
Mad Men and the Artists
How advertising has exploited fine art, putting Michelangelo’s David in a pair of cut-off jeans, turning the Mona Lisa’s enigmatic smile into a cheesy grin for a toothpaste ad, or adding a speech bubble to the Virgin Mary in Fra Angelico’s Annunciation when the Angel Gabriel tells her she’s going to have a baby and she says “ Thanks but I already know” to promote a pregnancy testing kit.

Banoffi Pie and other Adventures
The talk describes the early part of my career as a chef in the restaurant business, my early influences and how I created the dessert that was to become world famous. Also the serendipity of how the fame spread and became a favourite of the Royal Family and other famous people and how the word (whichever way it was spelt – Banoffi or Banoffee) eventually made it into the Oxford English Dictionary.
