FSC 2015. We started with just a few…
But by 2016 – not only did we grow in number but our village sponsor turned us into canaries…
Fairwarp Stoolball Club reformed in 2015 and has been steadily building in numbers and confidence.
It is a mixed club and ages are from 8 to a lot older! We are not currently in a league although we try to have a few friendly matches during the season.
For a friendly, the mix of male/female doesn’t matter too much, but to progress the team into a league, we really do need a few more mature females to join us. If you have ever played any kind of game which involves a racket/bat/ball of any kind – there is nothing to stop you walking onto a stoolball pitch and getting on with it! Even if you’ve never played that kind of game, don’t worry, it’ll just take a bit longer to get there!
Our ethos at FSC however is so much more than winning matches. It’s about getting out in the fresh air, meeting a whole range of people, participating in a traditional Sussex enjoyable team sport and getting some exercise!
So why not come and join us? We train Wednesday 6.30pm every week throughout summer (unless it’s raining or we have our one away match!) and we welcome anyone who wants to give it a go.
The session comprises a 10 minute warm up, 30 minutes or so of stoolball skill training with a different skill each week, and then a match. Training matches are evolving as more people join us but everyone gets to play at every position at some point during the match.
To summarise, lots of nice people of all ages, at a reasonable time of day, at the most idyllic spot in Fairwarp. What’s not to like?!
Email Helen & Ellie for more information and to join our email list for notifications and to arrange to come down and join us (or you can just turn up!).
Email: Fairwarp.stoolball@gmail.com or just turn up on Wednesday at 6.30pm at the QE2 Field.
